Last week, the Dutch brand development agency VBAT unveiled the new brand identity for Telfort, one of the leading Dutch telecom providers. Telfort contacted VBAT and asked them to redo the whole visual identity to set themselves apart from the other telecom providers (T-Mobile, Ben, Hi, Vodafone, and KPN). The new look should reflect Telfort’s position as the aspiring, price-sensitive peoples’ champion within the sector.

The result is a logo made from two speech bubbles in reference to a conversation. When used in the whole branding package the speech bubbles get six different fresh and fruity colors.

They’ve also incorporated the bubbles into their website menu which works very well.

I like the way they use multi-colored graphics but I’m not sure if this is going to have the effect of brand recognition they want it to reach. But then again, I could be wrong…

Other than the colorful graphics, the identity also consist images of way too happy people doing all kinds of crazy stuff. You’ll see a woman using a leek instead of a phone, a young boy trying to listen to his calls through his dog’s head and a woman who has post-its sticked all over her and doesn’t really seem to know why.

Each company, product, website, blog etc. needs their own identity. It’s what makes you stand out from your competitors and gives you visibility, credibility, and memorability.

Logo guidelines.

For this website, we’ve chosen to go with our main theme: Dutch design. The Netherlands is currently one of the world’s poles of great modern design. The country is a center of innovation and experimentation in architecture, urban planning, industrial design and graphic design. Dutch design is modern, functional, simple and direct.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

With this in our mind, we wanted a memorable, simple, clear logo representing the Dutch design scene. Here’s how our logo took form:

The logo

The logo took form thanks to the letters ‘D’ and ‘I’ from Dutch Inspired. The letters were rotated and modified into a tulip, the flower from our worldwide known tulip fields.

Orange tulips.

Rotation and modification of the letters ‘D’ and ‘I’.

Colors

The question of what colors to use was pretty obvious; black and orange ofcourse! Orange is the color of The Netherlands. Everywhere the Dutch show up, it turns orange.

The logo colors: black and orange.

Typography

The type used for the word ‘Dutch Inspired’ is Calibri. This font is created by the Dutch type designer Lucas de Groot. Calibri’s many curves and the new rasteriser team up in larger sizes to reveal a warm and soft character.

Calibri by Lucas de Groot

About

The logo was designed by Dirk Leys, a brand identity designer from Tilburg, The Netherlands. It has already been featured on the following websites:
