Wim Crouwel at the Design Museum

The Design Museum in London celebrates the prolific career of the Dutch graphic designer Wim Crouwel. As one of the leading designers of the twentieth century, Crouwel embraced a new modernity to produce typographic designs that captured the essence of the emerging computer and space age of the early 1960s.

Spanning over 60 years, the exhibition covers Crouwel’s rigorous design approach and key moments in his career including his work for design practice Total Design, the identity for the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, as well as his iconic poster, print, typography and lesser known exhibition design. The exhibition will explore Crouwel’s innovative use of grid-based layouts and typographic systems to produce consistently striking asymmetric visuals.

Sushi collection, Morosso

One of the more global and intriguing furniture designs this year is Moroso’s Sushi Collection, designed by Edward van Vliet.

Phat Knits by Bauke Knottnerus

Phat Knits, created by Dutch designer Bauke Knottnerus, is a series of brilliantly over scaled furniture pieces. Knit, woven, knotted or piled like spaghetti, the series includes seating, rugs, and multifunctional interior objects.

Hawaii-Sized Island Made of Recycled Plastic

What can you do with all the plastic waste floating around in the Pacific Ocean? A group of Dutch architects has an answer to this question. Their idea is to create an island, about the same size as Hawaii, out of it.

The island would be populated by ‘climate refugees’ who will live in recycled plastic homes and work on farms or grow seaweed. The idea is to make the entire plastic island self-sufficient with the habitants producing their own food and energy.

Clockwork Love by Tjep

The Dutch design studio Tjep presented a collection of jewelry in the Gallery Ra in Amsterdam. The collection is called Clockwork Love. Clockwork Love is different “heart whims” through the use of free characters, addressing topics such as transience, passion, insecurity and desire.

Dutch designer Yvette Laduk works and meets clients from her waterfront home, she lives inside her own portfolio. When she and her partner Bas de Boer, a contractor, first found this bungalow in Alphen aan de Rijn they knew it had potential.
